Description:
George Gibson McMurtry (November 6, 1876 – November 22, 1958) was a United States Army officer, a Medal of Honor recipient and a Harvard Law-educated Wall Street lawyer. He first served in the Army as a member of the Rough Riders during the Spanish–American War. He received the Medal of Honor as the executive officer of the Lost Battalion during World War I. December 16, 1903, he married Mabel C. Post on Long Island. He was a member of Bar Harbor Club, Pot & Kettle Club. Tombstone in Ledgelawn Cemetery. [show more]

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), born 1/30/1882, served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death on 4/12/1945. He wrote letters now in the collection of the Great Harbor Maritime Museum about a pair of binoculars, also in the collection at GHMM.

The envelope with this negative reads: No. 7 f., Tower, Single Tenement + Double Tenement, Looking N.W." though the negative shows a fishing schooner sailing by Mount Desert Rock. A number of people are visible on the deck, and dories are visible toward the bow. A large flag has the name of the vessel, which appears to be two words, though only Frances is visible.
